The Claremont Winds is a non-profit community organization based in Claremont, California. This semi-professional adult wind ensemble was founded in 1986 by Judge Brett Klein. The Claremont Winds have presented concerts throughout Southern California, including performances at Garrison Theater, Bridges Hall, Mudd Theatre, Disneyland and Walt Disney Concert Hall. Dr. Tony Mazzaferro became the principal conductor of the group in 1993. In 2001, the ensemble released its premier CD, “Festival” featuring the works of Clifton Williams, Frank Ticheli, Gordon Jacob, Percy Grainger, John Philip Sousa and Alfred Reed. In 2003, the Claremont Winds were invited to appear as guest artists at the Vic Lewis Band Festival in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The group created the Young Artist Scholarship in order to reward exceptional artistry among music students aged 14-21 and assist with furthering their education. The scholarship program recently completed its third highly successful year. The Winds’ membership is highly selective and drawn from as far away as Rancho Palos Verdes, Long Beach, Victorville and Woodland Hills. Many members are professional players and teachers, and are all seasoned performers.
